Residential Development Will Replace Spotswood Golf Course

Interesting news! Colonial Williamsburg president Cliff Fleet has announced that the Spotswood par-3 golf course, part of the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, will be developed into a residential neighborhood in close proximity to Merchants Square, the College of Williams & Mary and other downtown Williamsburg amenities. That will leave the Golden Horseshoe with two highly regarded 18-hole golf courses, the Green and the Gold. In an email to Golden Horseshoe members, Fleet said the nine-hole Spotswood course "has been underutilized for many years,” and that its land would be redeveloped “into a high-quality, walkable” neighborhood that will sit adjacent the Williamsburg Inn and the Golden Horseshoe club. No timeframe was announced for the project, which Fleet wrote is in the very early stages of planning. Fleet said Colonial Williamsburg believes “this initiative will significantly enhance Williamsburg as both a destination and a community.” Thoughts?

Salad Bar Party

I threw a girly party yesterday for a couple of my girlfriends. We had a wonderful time talking over what has been happening lately in our lives. Since we are going out of town Tuesday for two weeks, I have to admit I was trying to clear out my refrigerator a bit.

I had a huge head of romaine lettuce and I always have a ton of salad dressings. Instead of buying a lot of items that would go uneaten, Salad Bar Party it became.

I have a ton of these small glass containers my Aunt Sallie gave me the last time she visited from Knoxville. These we actually my great grandmother's. They were perfect for dressings and the toppings.

I served Wishbone Italian, Kraft Classic Ranch, Kraft Creamy French, Brianna's Saucy Ginger Mandarin, Cardini's Caesar, Braswell's Creamy Vadalia Onion, and Kraft Extra Virgin Olive Oil Basil Parmesan Vinaigrette.

The toppings included Bacon Bits, Croutons, Shredded Carrots, Red Onion, Cucumber, Won tons, and Craisins.

It was a hit. I've never done a salad bar before but I think it will be done again!
