Ranch/Rambler Homes

Ranch Homes/ Rambler A Ranch Style home is an American original. Originating in the 1920’s with the post war boom of the middle class, this architectural style home fused modernist ideas with the American Western period of wide open spaces to create a casual lifestyle. One story living with a long low pitch roof and deep overhanging eaves. The roof line was primarily cross gabled, single gable or hip. The home itself was either rectangular, L or U Shaped. Many had an attached garage, others none at all. The floor plan was simple with the living area separate from the bedrooms. Often times a sliding glass door leads to a patio and feature large glass windows. The exterior materials used where typically locally sourced and mixed such as stucco, brick, wood or stone. By the 1950’s, nine in every 10 homes built were a Ranch or Rambler style. By the late 20th Century the Ranch style home began to wane and Neo-Eclectic homes became the rage with their combination of the Cape Cod, Mission, T

What's Been Happening Around Here

We spent quite a bit of time this weekend shopping. The weather was perfect until Sunday. We were able to get outside and wear sleeveless clothing, pop on our shades and open the sunroof. I love days like this. Some people love cold weather and I got you, I do too, but I'm over it. I'm ready to not have to have a coat and a pair of socks on my feet.

The girls and I went shopping this past Saturday while Joe went to meet his dad borrowing the power washer. We didn't power wash last year so this year the outside of the house is grody. If you live anywhere near the coast, you know how mold and mildew run rampant. We are getting ready to spray it down and start fresh.

After we chop down this birch tree, that sits entirely too close to our house, we are starting a raised garden this year. We have planted in pots and did well before. Last year, we planted right in the ground. The spot we planted into the ground though, has now been taken over with shade from trees getting larger in our yard. Now we must move the location. I love fresh herbs and veggies especially when I can walk outside and pick something from the ground. I cannot wait for fresh basil again. There is nothing better than fresh basil, tomatoes, mozzarella and balsamic reduction.

Last night was a night that will not happen again for a long time. UVA, The University of Virginia, and UVM, The University of Memphis, met in the tournament to see who made it to the Sweet Sixteen. I love sports and I am Alumi of The University of Memphis. I live in Virginia and we are huge Hoo Fans! SO, who could I pick to win. Well, I didn't. Virginia won though and I have to say I am excited. First time in over 20 years that UVA has made it the Sweet Sixteen!

I really want to read this! ------->

Has anyone read these? They seem very interesting. I see Steal Like An Artist is a my library but not Show Your Work. Planning on picking up Steal tomorrow.

I have a tube of lotion next to my kitchen sink you must pop the top to experience. Lately, I feel a pump would best fit my needs.I mean, it's not a huge deal but it kind of is.

Have you smelled Caldrea's Mandarin Vetiver? Yum!

Who loves Netflix? We do! We got done watching Breaking Bad which was awesome and Aaron Paul is a doll. Now we have started to re-watch 24 as we gear up for the new season. Love Jack and CHLOE!!

This is what I watch going to bed. I love Magnum and I really never noticed how damn hot Tom Selleck was until I started watching this show. It's amazing how many actors and actresses wanted to be on this television show! Sharon Stone, Carol Burnett and Eugene Roche all show their face.

Love this but it's been sold. :(

Trying this Blue Moon Ice Cream Shake.. Have you heard about these yet? I hadn't until my husband told me about them.
